Searching for an EV can be overwhelming especially with the endless options. There are pure electric, plug-in hybrids, and your regular hybrid electric vehicles. And not to mention that there are about 20 different car companies producing their own electric vehicles. Let us help you find the EV that is best for you!
The first thing you should figure out is if this will be your only vehicle or not. If so then you should look into models with longer battery ranges. Some EV’s have batteries that will last over 500 miles with one charge. If your daily drive to work is long or you do lots of running around like dropping kids off at after school activities, then some of these cars might be a good option for you.
One thing to keep in mind is the more range a car has per charge the more it's going to cost because of the size of the battery. The 2023 Tesla Model S has a range of 405 miles with a base price of $91,630. There are also many more affordable options with longer ranges as well. The new Chevy Equinox EV has a range of 300 miles with a base price of $30,000. This car can seat 5 people and has plenty of trunk space if you decide to take it on a road trip. Another EV you might want to consider is the Ford Mustang Mach-E. This is a little more of a luxury EV, but it has a starting price of $44,795. This EV comes with a range of 290 miles and a super roomy interior.
If you have range anxiety a plug in hybrid might be a better choice for you while still reducing greenhouse gasses. The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica has a starting price of $38,690 and comes with plenty of space. This minivan’s battery has a capacity of 33 miles before it will use its gas engine. Combining the battery and the gas engine this van can go 540 miles before it hits empty.
If you don't need something as big, the 2022 Ford Escape might be a good option. The starting price for a plug in hybrid is $36,930. The battery will get you an estimated 37 miles before it resorts to the gas engine. When using both the battery and gas this vehicle will get you 104 miles per gallon.
If this EV is going to be your second car then you might want something with a little less range. The 2023 Nissan Leaf Hatchback starts at $29,135. The Nissan Leaf S has a range of 149 miles and the Nissan Leaf SV Plus offers a range of 212 miles. Another option with a little more inside space is the Volkswagen ID.4 which has a range of 209-275 miles based on what model you purchase. While the starting price of this vehicle is $40,290 and might seem super high don't forget the tax credit that comes with eligible EV’s.
