EV Charging Etiquette:
-The main rule of parking at an electric vehicle charging station is that you should only be there when you are plugged in and charging your vehicle. There are plenty of apps that will let electric vehicle drivers know when their vehicle is finished charging.
-If you plan on being at a charging station for a long period of time, say you are attending a concert or going for a hike. If you are okay with someone else unplugging your vehicle, you can leave a note on your vehicle’s dashboard to let other drivers know when it is okay to unplug your electric vehicle. Do not unplug someone else’s vehicle without prior permission - they may have a low battery and waiting for a charge so they can get home, and in some vehicles you can actually damage the plug connector if it is locked to the vehicle.
-when leaving an electric vehicle charging station, make sure the cord properly put back in place so it doesn’t get dirty or damaged. Cords can get buried underneath snow and plows may snag cords.
-If a charger is malfunctioning please check-in on PlugShare to get the equipment owner notified for the need to repair it; also this alerts other EV drivers to not stop to charge their vehicle at that specific station. You can also call the company that is listed on the charging station to let them know that it needs to be repaired.
-If a vehicle with an internal combustion engine is parked at an electric vehicle charging station, consider leaving a kind note letting them know not to park their in the future. Many gasoline powered vehicle drivers do not know that they should not park at charging stations.
