Tip #1: Watch Gasoline Truck Filling The Storage Tanks:
If a gasoline truck is filling up the storage tanks, do not stop to fill up. As the gas is being delivered, most likely the gas is being stirred up. You may end up picking up some of the dirt that normally settles at the bottom of the storage tanks.
Tip #2: Fill Up When Your Gas Tank Is ½ Full:
This is super important if you are looking to save money on fuel costs. The reason to fill up when your vehicle reaches the ½ mark is; that the more gas you have in your tank, the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates very quickly, gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof; this roof serves as a zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, thus minimizing the evaporation.
Tip #3: Filling Up Slowly:
When you are filling up do not squeeze the trigger on a fast mode. If you look at the pump you will notice that the trigger has three stages; low, middle, and high. You should be pumping on the low mode, minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses on the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast mode, some of the liquid that goes into your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and pulled back into the underground storage tank, thus you are getting less gas for your money. Next time you get gas pump slowly.
Tip #4: Buy Gasoline In The Morning:
Buy your gasoline early in the morning, when the ground temperature is still cool. All service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground, the colder the ground the more dense the gasoline is. As the temperature rises, gasoline expands; buying gasoline in the afternoon or in the evening, your gallon isn’t exactly a gallon. To save on gas we recommend filling up early in the morning or even at night when the ground temperature is cold.
