Checking your engine oil will save you money in the long run. We will show you how easy it is to simply check your vehicle’s oil and what to look for when you check it.
Steps to checking your engine oil:
-Make sure your vehicle is parked on a level surface and hasn’t been turned on in at least 4 hours, this way you don’t get a false reading.
-Open the hood of your car and find the oil dipstick, your dipstick has markings on it for high and low oil levels. Before checking the oil wipe your dipstick with a paper towel and put it back in. You want to look for the measurement when you are pulling the dipstick out.
When pulling the dipstick out again for evaluation here are some things to watch out for:
-Major change in color
-Change in oil level
-Oil consistency
If you notice these items, it's time to make an appointment and have your vehicle looked at.
It is recommended that you check your oil at least once a month; if you have over 100,000 miles on your vehicle, check it twice a month.
